Exercise: Feel the drawing
Close your eyes.
Let's start to feel the drawing. Let your hand learn the lines.
This exercise is part of the training to learn "seeing how to draw". As soon as you can distinguish between the essential and the less important parts of an object, you can deduct the most important lines for drawing. Which means, that you will only need a few lines in order to draw an object. And as soon as you manage to illustrate objects, situations or humans with a only few lines, you can also draw them more detailed. The biggest step is to be able to reduce the object to a minimum and still keep its character.
What do you need for this exercise?
- an object of your everyday life, or a shell - as I used in this video
- a sketchbook or a sheet of paper
- a pen or a pencil

What's the idea behind this exercise?
A big part of the drawing competence comes from regular practice. By looking at an object/a person/or an animal, you will get more sensible for the characteristic elements, that are necessary for recognizing the object oder the person.
Learning to look at elements in this way (the way I showed you in the exercise) will help to easier deduct the main aspects of an element. It's all about practice. The more often you do this exercise with objects, the easier you'll find the main characteristics and the quicker you will be able to reproduce them on paper.
